Dehradun is the capital of Uttarakhand, near the Himalyan foothills. It is at the height of 1400 ft above sea level.
It is located in the Doon valley nested between the river Ganges and yamuna in the direction East and west respectively.
It is believed that Dehradun was formed in the year in 1676 by Shri Ram Rai ji. It is said that he set his ‘dera’ (camp) in this ‘dun’ (Valley) from where Dehradun gets its name.
